Inn At Millrace Pond 20+ Acres 7 Building 17 Rooms

The historic Inn at Millrace Pond is set on 20+ acres on a hillside in the village of Hope in northwest New Jersey (which reminds one more of NH or VT and yet is just an hour from NYC). Founded in 1769 by Moravian pioneers, Hope is now listed in NJ and national registers of historic sites.

The inn incorporates 7 buildings, 3 of which house the guest rooms - the Gristmill (a landmark limestone building constructed in 1769-70 and listed in the National Register of Historic Buildings; the Miller's House and the Wheelwright's Stone Cottage. The Wallenberg Conference Center, owner/manager residence, a red barn (currently used as an antique shop) and a new oversized garage with loft space comprise the remaining buildings. These buildings are set on approximate 7 acres and are serviced by 50+ paved parking spaces. The pond/meadows comprise another 7 acres and there are 6+ acres that may be build-able subject to zoning ordinances.

For 150 years the gristmill was the heart of Hope's economy. Now, 46 years after it’s closing and since 1986, guests are enjoying this meticulously restored and incomparable historic venue.

The Inn At Millrace Pond is a special place where young couples enjoy intimate engagement parties and weddings, corporate executives enjoy quiet conferences and meetings, production companies shoot their catalogues and commercials, and all of us can enjoy the respite from the demands of our everyday lives.

The Gristmill has two restaurants. Guests appreciate the award-winning menu and wine list in the 70-seat first floor fine-dining room as well as the faire and brews available in the basement Tavern. A massive stone wall accents the formal dining room, where evening candlelight showcases the exposed posts and beams. An open staircase descends to the Tavern, highlighted by an immense open wine rack, a walk-in fireplace, an old grain chute and memorabilia spanning 180 years that reveal this massive structure’s original function as a working mill.

The inn has 17 guest rooms. Each guest room has its own bath and reflects the quiet elegance of colonial America. Period reproductions, original wide-board pumpkin pine floors and handcrafted oriental rugs heighten the feel of colonial authenticity. The 9 Gristmill rooms feature American primitive reproductions and braided rugs. The 6 Millrace House rooms enjoy a handsome Southwick parlor and the Wheelwright’s Stone Cottage features 2 spacious rooms with whirlpool tubs for your comfort.

Another building, the Raoul Wallenberg Conference Center, was born of unbridled enthusiasm for historic preservation and determined confidence in the merits of adaptive reuse. Its doors re-opened in the spring of 1999. The rescue and renaissance of this 170 year deacon’s residence has resulted in a singular opportunity to enjoy refreshing and productive meetings with use of breakout rooms, overhead projectors, business machines, VCR and DSL connectivity!
