Location:Byhalia, MS - Small town. (expanding suburb of Memphis, TN) Located 20 minutes from Memphis, 8 miles from Olive Branch, MS Desoto County, one of the fastest growing counties in the US and 11 miles from Collierville, TN.
History:
A.L. Chalmers (civil war General) from South Carolina built a small house in 1840 that was enlarged by the second owner. E.B. Horn (business man/Byahlia merchant) purchased the house from Chalmers in 1906. McAuley?s (senator/postmaster) bought the house in 1938. St.John?s purchased the home in 2002. The name, Thistledome, actually means, ?This will do me.?
Home & Business Description:
4 acres and 4800+- square foot Greek revival home circa 1840. Beautifully renovated and is used as a home as well as a successful Bed & Breakfast and Wedding/special events business. Home is on the National Historic register and is located in a National Register Historic District (historic downtown Byahlia). Grand staircase, nine fireplaces, stained glass windows upstairs, new electric, central heat/air, new plumbing. Second story balcony, wrap around porch. Central entrance has elliptical transom with sunburst molding and leaded glass in diamond and painted pane sidelights. Downstairs has three parlors, grand hall with staircase, large foyer with black and white marble floor and three sets of very large pocket doors, Master bedroom with full bath (marble floor), large dining with chandelier & wrap around plate rack, kitchen (marble floor), butlers pantry, laundry (slate floor). Almost all rooms have fireplaces. Entire downstairs has 12-foot ceilings. Upstairs has 11-foot ceilings, 4 bedrooms all with fireplaces, stained glass windows and transoms, full bath (granite floor) with antique 6-foot claw foot tub. All floors that are not tiled are original wood. Original moldings, etc.Archived in July, 2011
