Resident Curator - Hollins House @ Heckscher State Park
As Resident Curator, occupants invest in the rehabilitation/renovation and maintenance of properties as tenant in exchange for a long-term lease-details based on proposal and submission evaluation. In general, properties, considered for the Resident Curator Program require significant (at least $250,000) expected rehabilitation investment.
Built approximately 1966 using the structure of a centuries old barn as an architectural base, Hollins House was constructed of repurposed materials and timber. Custom-designed to suit Ms. Hollins’ preference, the residence has a combined kitchen and den open floor plan with kitchen cabinets made of barn siding with concealed hardware because in her words, “I hate a kitchen look.” The residence has approximately 3,200SF of interior space in a 2-story layout on approximately 1.5 acres.
Due to State Parks’s renovations – new heating system, window restoration, slate roof repair, kitchen cabinetry, and sanitary waste lines replacement – completed in 2013, the residence currently exceeds New York State occupancy code requirements. The Resident Curator(s) for this opportunity enter a move-in ready residence that’s open to renovation that respects the building’s original character and are approved by State Parks.
