About Buena Vista
Buena Vista was first established at Eagle Bend, Mississippi. The Kiger Family first chose the site for its exceptional beauty and the Mississippi River frontage. In 1876 the Mississippi River changed her course and left Eagle Lake behind. Buena Vista Plantation can be located on older maps as “Eagle Bend”.
This beautiful plantation home was built by Basil G. Kiger sometime around 1842. The home was built with cypress wood, harvested locally, and most of the tools, nails and other materials were made by the plantation blacksmith. Buena Vista was built in the Federal Style and currently has five bedrooms and three modern bathrooms for comfort. There are eight fireplaces, ten foot windows, thirteen foot ceilings downstairs, and twelve foot ceilings upstairs. The master bedroom suite contains a huge master bath, complete with its own fireplace and whirlpool tub. The kitchen is equipped with ceramic countertops and professional stainless steel appliances and the cabinet doors were saved from the original freestanding kitchen.
Cypress wood floors adorn most of the rooms in the house including the grand hall.
From 2007: The glorious exterior of the home has also been completely restored and is framed by the ORIGINAL shutters.
